It depends on what you are using the laptop for mostly but If i were me I would go for the Dell. The battery life is 7 hours and the gateway has a maximum of 4 hours but this usually tested with wifi off and battery settings to a level which would be unsuitable for normal use so the actually battery on the gateway is unlikely to give you very much at all. If you do store a lot on your laptop the Dell has a better storage capacity at 750 GB whilst the Gateway has 640GB which is quite a difference. All in all though I personally think Dells are better built, I have worked with both of these makes before and most of the Dells still work now whilst the Gateways didn't do as well. I don't know about in the US but in the UK aswell gateway parts arent as available therefore it wasn't cost effective to repair them when they did give up

Out of personal experience stay away from gateway. They are not the same company they were in the past. Gateway is just another mass produced off the shelf system owned by acer. Honestly I would visit the dell website and order a laptop with everything you want or need.
