Trying to connect laptop to tv?
i have a vga to rgb adapter, i plugit all in where it is suppose to go and it works. sort of, it looks like three skinny versions of my windows 7 desktop, the colors are way out of proportion and i can barely make out whats being sent to my older 2002 regular televison set. sometimes its cleear enough to see the mouse but my computer screen goes blank when i plug it in so my laptop is rendered useless while its connected to tv. just the screen everything on the laptop works while plugged to the tv except the laptops screen. but anyways i know this is working cause i can see my desktop on the tv its just hard to make out and the colors suck. iv messed with the laptops settings and put it to the lowest resolution to try and match the tv but that didnt help. iv used the option to keep both screens active but it doesnt work either, i found that option in the display settings. am i wasting my time, or is there a solution im about ready to drop my college beggining art class and take a computer technology class.

I have a laptop that is bluray enabled. Now I like watching blurays and I have started a personal collection movies that I don't think people would want in the main collection , but I honestly prefer watching movies on a tv or a movie screen compared to my laptop screen. So I wanted to do something that will connect my laptop with my tv. However I have a SD tv. I have the red yellow white cables in the front but is there anything I can do to hook it up without vga cablesGman has a very good answer and I do have an HDMI cable, but I want to hook it up to an SDTV, can you help with that. Connected laptop to tv but no sound?
Picture is perfect. sound not quite so. im using a standard vga and a sound jack. i have 1 end plugged into pc and the 2 red n white into tv. and when switched input to pc the picture is there but no sound. im putting the 1 end into the microphone output on pc and the red n white jacks into the audio input on tv. ive had problems with it b4 trying to hook up my xbox to headphones. which got sorted but with an extention to my xbox with the standard screen attachment plugged in and the red n white leads coming off so sound works. but with the pc it just wont have it. ive gone into control panel and sound. had a look but no improvements. any suggestions? newish LG tvbest solution 10points.My pc dont have HDMITO JIM C. What settings should i change?

I'm trying to connect my laptop an HP Pavilion dv6 . I've tried the different connection methods projector, extended, etc. But it doesn't show up. Am I missing software or something?
Has anyone had this problem connecting laptop to TV?
I've connected my laptop to my LG TV using an RGB cable. However all the TV will show is the desktop background no icons or shortcuts , no matter what is on the laptop screen. I've tried changing settings and so on nothing fixes it. I've clicked the 'extend desktop' box because otherwise the TV doesn't detect any input at all.
