Question: Gateway laptop won't turn on?

I have a Gateway MX6920 laptop that will not start. When I press the power button, it lights up blue and a few lights near the touch pad light up as well, but this only last for about half of a second, and it shuts off. This happens whether it is powered by a battery or AC adapter. The battery charges while it is plugged in, but the laptop won't turn on. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Good news bad news bad news: I'm sorry, but I think something inside is fried, probably the motherboard because it dies so quickly. good news: The harddrive should be fine, so all of your files and everything should be safe, you just need somewhere new to put it.
