I know Apple is just the absolute ish of laptops. But, I'm looking more towards either HP I already have one Asus or Toshiba.Things I personally am looking for Windows 7 on most computers now anyways HDD Microsoft Office The gaming graphics it takes to play the Sims 3 ahaha.. on a school laptop I've read the specs on what it takes to do all this, except the Microsoft Office part Word, PowerPoint, Excel .Basically the QUESTIONIs what laptop would you recommend? Or brand? lastly, I'm picky. I don't like those really ugly boxy laptops.

So I'm entering college soon, and I need a good laptop. My price range is probably up to about 500 US dollars at most.Specifications I want a laptop that has decent battery power. Like, 7 to 10 hours battery power. something that can handle obsessive multitasking An okay screen. I don't need state of the art screens, but I would like a laptop where I don't have to cringe every time I try turning on a movie and..yeah. Good screens. Something that's portable, not too bulky.In contrast, I don't need an overly large memory storage. Or game playing capabilities, because my games are all played on different consoles. I just want a laptop that's sturdy, portable one I can do word processing on obviously, but one that I can do research and maybe watch a movie on as well. So, anything out there?

Good Laptop for College Student?
This fall will be my first year in college, and i have begun to shop around for laptops. I am an Economics Business Major, but I am also pursuing either a minor or a double major in Political Science. So, i will mostly use my laptop for writing essays, working on PowerPoint's, and excel spreadsheets, and research. I do not want to buy a Mac or a Sony, as i have already determined them to be overpriced, and simply not worth the money personal preference . So I have narrowed it down to Dell, HP, and Acer. I'm looking to spend somewhere between $400 and $750. I want the laptop to be durable i.e. not breaking down every other day , portable, and contain good battery life and memory at least 3 GB of Ram . Thank You

I already have a laptop that I lug back and forth to college, but there are some major issues with it that I can't ignore.1 The batter only lasts for an hour and a half. I can't use it during class even though the professor allows us to , and that's really where I want to keep my notes for the class.2 It heats up really quickly, and sometimes it overheats and shuts down when I'm working, and I already have a cooler for it, and it isn't working.Things to keep in mind, I'm a budding writer and photographer, so I need a lot of room for files and photos.So can someone point me in the direction of a laptop that has a lot of memory, is easily transportable, and doesn't heat up within ten minutes of turning it on?Oh, and I don't think I can afford a Mac.

going off to college next year and looking for a new laptop but not sure which one would be good. what brands are good? no macs though i personally do not like them. from what i have looked at so far i know i want one with a Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2G DDR, at least a 100 GB hard drive would 5400 or 7200 rpm make a big difference? the Gateway MT6831 Notebook looks pretty good to me but is it a good brand? what about sony, ibm, compaq, hp, toshiba?
