Help with a hp laptop?

Question: Help with a hp laptop?

(Posted by: on 2010-03-11 21:52:34)

I have a hp laptop and it's about 2 years old. Today when i went to turn it on, i clicked the power button. The computer sort of turned on because all the lights came on and it made the familiar noises but nothing comes on the screen. The screen is completely black. Can someone help me figure it out or at least explain to me why this is happening or something? I just used it yesterday and it was perfectly fine.

That's tough because there are a few things that can go bad on a computer that would cause the screen not to turn on. The most likely are: motherboard/ video card failure, hard drive failure, loose connections between the motherboard and screen, and maybe even hard drive failure. You said it makes familiar noises, so it might not be your hard drive because a failing hard drive will sometimes make clicking or squawking noises. Try connecting an external monitor to the VGA port on the side or back of your laptop. If the external monitor works, you probably just need to replace the screen itself. If the external monitor doesn't work, you need more advanced troubleshooting.

Try following method to get rid of Black screen problem. TAKE OUT YOUR LAPTOP BATTERY REMOVE YOUR AC ADAPTOR CORD, that's the wall power, remove it. NOW HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS That will drain any static electricity that has built up on your laptop system board and many times fixes the problem of a black screen. After the 30 seconds re-connect your laptop to the wall power and hit the power button normally and see if the laptop comes back up.
