How do i install my hp laptop's battery?

Question: How do i install my hp laptop's battery?

(Posted by: on 2010-09-01 05:23:12)

I have an HP Compaq Laptop, a few months ago its battery stopped charging itself, I took it to my local computer store who tested the battery and told me I needed a new one. I made sure of the correct model number and bought a new battery from ebay. That arrived and I attempted to install it. The laptop "changes its mind " about the new battery. At the moment it says 100 % charged. Other times it says various percentages of battery strength and sometimes it says its charging, and other times gives me the "plugged in, not charging " treatment. Regardless of what the laptop says, the battery cannot run the laptop for any length of time. If I disconnect the charger even for a second the laptop loses power. This is obviously incredibly annoying because I can't use my laptop on the move. I've tried a few "fixes " I've found on the internet such as making sure the system bios is up to date, and reinstalling the power management in device manager but none of this seems to make any difference. I have noticed over time that the battery can keep the laptop on for about ten seconds if the laptop is closed and "asleep ", which it couldn't do when I first got the new battery, if I try to boot the laptop without the charger attached it can run off the battery for a few seconds. I am out of ideas and would appreciate some help if anyone knows what to do.

It sounds more like a connection issue inside the laptop it's self. Use an eraser from a pencil and rub the contacts on the battery and on the laptop to make sure there is no oxidation on them. It's possible it's not making proper contact.

Check your BIOS for any Battery Calibrations settings. If you have one, then you should run the calibration and it may fix the problem. If not, and this behavior has been practically consistent over it's entire lifespan (of the battery) then you have a hardware problem somewhere else. You can also try holding down the power button, unplugged but battery still in and unplugged with battery out, to see if there is a static build up somewhere in there and it is preventing power from going into the battery. Unfortunately, if that doesn't work then you may have to send the computer in, if it's under warranty. The problem isn't obvious, which means that it will need specific hardware testing to find out what it is. If it isn't under warranty, then it probably isn't worth the money to fix it but you can still send it in, or take it to a local computer repair person/ store... Though probably not the ones who told you it was the battery in the first place. But then again it could just be a freak incident where you just happened to get a new battery that was dead. You can always try buying another new one, and if you still have the problems then return it and go about getting the laptop fixed. If you don't have the problems with another new battery, than you know the first new one is bad and it may still be under warranty.

It seems pretty clear to me what the problem is. You bought the battery off where? Ebay. Thats where. Thats your first mistake. You never buy stuff from ebay, everyone knows that the people who sell stuff aren't trustworthy. You need a new battery. When its jumping percentages it means it can't retain the charge. You say you unplug it and it shuts down? Heres a diagram: The way its supposed to be: Power Source > Charger > Battery > Laptop This is yours: Power Source > Charger > Dead Battery > Laptop The laptop skips the battery since the charger is working and the battery isn't. Everything is running fine. When you remove the charger: Power Source > Dead Battery Laptop Since the laptop can't use power off the dead battery, it turns off. In your case, the battery is not completely dead, therefore it runs for only 10 seconds before dieing. Just get a new battery and you will be good as new.

Try to check the AC power supply, system board and the battery are functioning correctly. Insert the battery into the battery compartment on the bottom of the notebook PC; Connect the AC power supply and allow the battery to charge for 15 to 30 minutes. papatek.com/ Knowledge/ Battery-knowledge/ Knowledge_187.html

Have u tried to remove battery and plugin charger, then does laptop runs well? if yes, I think the battery is incompatible with laptop. you should as for replacement.
