In my ibm laptop a lot of vertical line is present in the lcd,what cause this,and how can it be remove?

Everytime I start my ibm thinkpad t42 model, once i hit enter on ''start windows normally'', it sometimes goes to the log in screen and the screen just goes blank, sometimes it just goes blank on the welcome screen, you can hear the sound, but unable to see anything on the screen. It has windows vista ultimate on it. Other than getting it fixed from outside or buying a new one, is there anything to do at home to fix it? thanks.

I have got an IBM Laptop after 5 years use?
It stops working after 10 mts sleeps for 30 mts and then starts working. It took 5 hrs to type a 3 page MS word. Once it did work after opening the windows. I am a retired person with limited means. Will it be possible to repair it as one person says I need to change RAM,Processor and memory card. Another person says IBM has stopped producing laptop and as such spare parts are not available. At Kolkata I could not find IBM service center. Can any body advise me what do I do? I cannot afford to buy a new one.

T 30 IBM Laptop won't boot, what's wromg ? 4 beeps !?
It did boot once, and showed blue screen. It was having trouble, though. It has only gotten as far as just the windows xp logo, though. Now, nothing, black screen. The power light comes on, when I turn it on, and the battery is holding a charge. One light stayson, it's green, like the rest of the power lights, and has a line straight down the middle of a circle, with two stems coming off it at 45 degrees, one goes off the the top of the line and to the right, and the other goes off the left at the bottom kinda looks like a " z " or a " N " I dont know what this light stands for. Any clue what's wrong with it, and how to fix it ? I bought this on craigslist, being told the os has problems. But that os is lomg gone. I only have the a hard drive with a fresh install of xp on it. Sorry I ain't a genius, but that's the way it goes. I did try to run my windows 7 disc in it, but nothing black screen. thx I have replaced the hard drive, will replace the memory, and the fan blows cool air. THX
My IBM Laptop is losing memory for no reason.?
I have deleted virtually everything that I find is not needed from my laptop, yet, after about 10 minutes, the memory goes down from hundreds of GBs to 0. I do not know what to do. Can anyone help me fix this problem?
