Some help my with my ibm laptop please?

Question: Some help my with my ibm laptop please?

(Posted by: TheDanster on 2010-01-22 11:49:35)

It was originally "designed for xp " and i wanted to experiment w/ trying to run it with windows 98. So i rebooted it with that. Now when i try to format it with my windows xp disc, it freezes up, and won't perform setup. HELP

Hi TheDanster; Go into the bios and make sure the IBM is set for ide or compatability mode, reboot and then retry the XP disk. You may have to FDisk the hard drive, to do this use a boot disk and then type in the DOS command Fdisk. you would them delete the partions and then recreate the primary dos partions. Sorry if it is a little complicated but you MAY have to do that if the XP cd doesn't work Good Luck

If I am not mistaken, the native file formats of 98 and XP are different - I think 98 is FAT32, and XP is NTFS. So there is no way you are going to be able format the drive with an XP disk and then run 98 on it. Why are you trying to format the disk with the XP disk anyway, if you have already loaded 98 on it? ???
