I have a 16 gig 1st gen iPad, and I'm thinking about selling it and getting a laptop is this a good choice? I am a high school student so I write a lot of papers and reports and social networking like Facebook which sucks on the iPad . So if you think I should what laptop should I get?

I know it's a long way off, but for Christmas this year I want to get my daughter a new computer to take with her to college next year when she graduates. She really wants an iPad, but I feel like she would be more productive on a laptop. When there are papers to type, etc, I worry the iPad won't be as easy. Which do you think would be best and why?
