What is a good laptop/ desktop replacement for my parents?
My parents are finally getting rid of their 6 year old desktop computer, and are looking to buy a laptop instead. Essentially, this will be used for 1 Basic web browsing and email.2 All Office programs like Word, Powerpoint, Excel etc.3 Occasionally watching DVDs 4 General use around the house, most likely will not leave the house too often.6 Music downloading and playing. They obviously are not hardcore gamers or movie downloaders, but they would like a fast computer that simply works. Here are some specs that I think they would like 1 Somewhat portable, anywhere from 11" 16" 2 The ability to hook it up to a monitor or one of those docks that connects everything automatically 3 A fairly descent battery life, since they won't always want to be plugged in.4 At least a core i5 processor5 They don't need a huge hard driveAny suggestions will help A link would help even more

Looking for recommendations for a laptop Desktop Replacement?
I am a busy work from home Mom, looking for a desktop replacement laptop that I will be using for my home business use. I develop web applications in VB.NET using Visual Studio and SQL Server 2005. I need to be more portable in order to get some work done during baseball practices, etc. Any suggestions?

Suggestions for a Laptop...Desktop Replacement?
OK, I do a lot of work in music and anime production...and, this giant box Cooler Master 690 is taking up too much room on my studio desk...so...I am looking for a laptop that is a desktop replacement for a power user. I have been looking at a Samsung i7 box. I am currently using my Samsung i5 for this duty.I need at least 4Gb RAM, a Quad, and a video card. I also need HDMI. It has to be able to run a 32" monitor as well. I run ProTools and Maya, so this box would need to be seriously high powered. Note I am not a gamer. So, anybody got a lead for me?Thanks David Thanks. I have been very happy with my Samsung Series 3 i5...especially seeing as how it is so small...possibly smaller than a Mac Air, but with a bigger and better screen. The gaming boxes do seem like the logical choice...and ASUS and MSI seem to have the market cornered on that. Alienware is overpriced Dell crap, so they are not even in the mix for me. This may sound funny, but an illuminated keyboard is pretty much a must for me...it is dark in a DJ booth LOL . I'm not a Mac Hater...in fact, many professional music folks use Mac exclusively...but, they are underpowered and overpriced. Wanna run 256 tracks in ProTools on a Mac? Good luck. LOL Money isn't a major concern for me...although I do prefer not to waste it. The ASUS seems to come in in the $1,700 area at NewEgg...beast with 16Gb RAM Still, I have had phenomenal luck with Samsung. The discrete video card is what I want...but, heat and silence are major issues...especially, silence for obvious reasons . JS...thanks for the help. Alienware is a non starter for me...but your other suggestions are excellent.

Gaming Laptop/Desktop Replacement or LANBOX/FragBox.?

I am not a hater or a fanboy, just need a PC based system...and NOT a Hackintosh either. Linux is also out of the question. My work requires PC based software.Diana Yeah, they can do 3000. My biggest problem is that the laptop needs to be small for DJ and portable DAW use , quiet because it is a studio , and not generate a crap load of heat using a cooler is too noisy . Diana No, performance is fine...in fact, my Samsung i5 weighs just under 3lbs...and does a great job.
