Alienware m17x laptop gpu fan not turning on?
I have a M17x R2 laptop with two GTX285m in SLI.They overheat and power my computer down even playing old games or browsing internet.The two fans in the back for the GPUs seem to not turn on even when temps go up.Does anyone know how to turn adjust the fans? It used to turn on fine before, I did not edit any bios registry or the like.

I admit I am new to the buying a Laptop thing, but I am Curious about the difference in these cards. 1GB AMD Radeon TM HD 7690M GDDR5 Discrete Graphics TM HDMI, VGA and a 2GB AMD Radeon TM HD 7690M GDDR5 Discrete Graphics TM HDMI, VGA I am going to be playing games, but on a 15.6 screen. full computer specs are AMD Quad Core A8 3550MX Accelerated Processor 2.7GHz 2.0GHz, 4MB L2 Cache 6gb ram15.6 screen640 gb hd 7200 rpmand either the 2gb version of the card or the 1gb version of the card a $75 difference so not a huge dealI just don't want to pay for something I am not going to need

Laptop GPU fan inconsistent (Nvidia Geforce GTX560m)?
Hello,I have a laptop Windows 7 64bit, intel core I7 2670QM CPU 2.20 ghz, and as mentioned above, Nvidia Geforce GTX 560m.Most of the time everything works great, no issues, but periodically my laptops fan, which I found out is the GPU fan, will start running extremely hard and loud. Furthermore, It sounds like it randomly revs up higher then drops, then higher again, etc etc. I checked my temps when this happens, but the temperatures are usually only at 40 C or lower. I tried adjust the fan control with nvidia control panel, MSI Afterburner, and RivaTuner, but none of them are able to adjust control the fan.I attemped entering my BIOS as well but nothing worked.The fan returns back to normal, i thought after i let it stay off for a long while, but that proved to be untrue as i left it off for 12 hours and upon startup the fan was still blasting. The past few times it has returned to normal speeds was after turning it off, then either unplugging the power or setting it on a flat surface.I do not suspect dust as a factor because it is still very new and I have already thoroughly cleaned it.Also, i did install the latest driver.Any ideas what could be causing this?

Desktop vs laptop GPU?
Laptop GPus are a little thin chip, how the heck are some able to perform as well and as fast as a desktop gpu, which is big huge and clunky with massive fans and etc.I know its about saving money and stuff, but seriously? if a laptop gpu can be so thin and small, making a desktop gpu that is that thick and clunky seems a bit too far in being cheap.Or am i totally missing somethin.IF Laptop gpus have nuthin on desktop ones, how do are alot of 1000 dollar laptops able to play battle feild 3 on high, while its a struggle for the average common desktop gpus like 550 tiI dont get why some of you are showing me benchmarks, when we all know benchmarks have NOTHING to do with reality.lets compare the 550 ti to the radeon 68506850 2,749 52fps Ungine heaven 2.0550 ti 1,885 48fps Ungine heaven 2.0I want to know why a heck load of laptop gpus can run bf3 on high with 20 fps,

I can't seem to be able to remove the gpou in my laptop, how the heck do I do that? heard I have to reball the gpu for the display to come back to my laptop. How the hell do people learn about this stuff anyways? by breaking laptops?

So I'm about to order a Sony Vaio laptop. I do mostly video editing, watching movies, and listening to music. For video editing, since I know it relies mostly on the CPU and Ram. What can i do to optimize my laptops gpu?
OK i have a dell xps 17 with a i7 2740 dont know exact numbers and a nvidia geofrce 3gb gt 555m with optimus. Any way can you give me any and all tips you know to get as much preformance possible to help play games like crysis just a bit smother. Before you answer i will make it clear that overclocking is a last choice and i was looking for solutions like e.g new drivers special programs anything i can do to make it run smother. AND as a little side question does anyone know what driver the computer would shipped with and is it possible to get better ones.
