Laptop hard drive enclosure - Will this work?
Hi, I am new to the whole hard drive enclosure things, but here is my idea. One of my laptop is death, but I want to get all the files out.I don't know if the hard drive is death or not, but I'm willing to take my chance. I am thinking about get one of those 2.5" hard drive enclosure, and put my laptop hard drive in it, then try to run it on my desktop. Now, my death laptop already has all the windows operating system window XP installed. Once i hook the enclosure into my desktop, which also has an operating system installed win Vista . Will the whole thing works out? Will my desktop recognize the hard drive enclosure as an external drive, so that I can just open it and get all my files out? Thanks in advance.
Laptop hard drive enclosure?
About a month ago my laptop stopped working. I was told it would be expensive to fix so I elected to simply buy a new desktop computer. Now that I have a desktop, I'd like to transfer the memory stored on the hard drive in my laptop to my desktop. I took out the laptop's hard drive and noticed that it is too small for me to install as a second hard drive in my desktop. So I'll need to buy a hard drive enclosure.I've never had to buy a hard drive enclosure before so I just wanted to make sure I get the right one. My laptop's hard drive is a Western Digital ATA Scorpio with 160 GB. I found an enclosure on Amazon.com that I think will work...amazon.com Vantec Pn Nst 285U2 Bkvantec Nexstar Enclosure dp B000UOC3WY ref pd bbs 4?ie UTF8& s electronics& qid 1230595877& sr 8 4My only concern is that the technical details specify that it is compatible with 2.5" hard drives. Well I measured the width of mine and it is about 2.75" not 2.5" . Is this a problem? Am I measuring the wrong part?

Laptop Hard Drive Enclosure?
So I'm upgrading my Macbook Pro's hard drive, and i bought a 750GB 2.5in HD and a Rosewill enclosure for the process. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the drive to show up anywhere on my computer the 750GB in the enclosure disk utility, finder, system profile even my windows 7 partition. Looking at the manual now it says the enclosure only supports 250GB hard drives, but on the comments on newegg people one newegg have had it work with bigger drives, blah blah blah. It's a bunch of crap and i'm sort of frustrated. Can anybody recommend a hard drive enclosure, that supports a 2.5" 750GB 7200RPM hard drive. And it has to be USB 2.0... or firewire 800 i guess.
