Old laptop hard drive recovery help?
I have a Toshiba HDD2188 80GB laptop hard drive I am trying to recover data from. I thought about buying the VANTEC CB ISATAU2 SATA IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter to get the data from it. Laptop hard drive recovery?
Hey, I have a hard drive for an old acer that got corrupted. i've been attempting to save the thing but it balks me at every turn. i know the problem is with the hard drive itself. i took it out, threw it into an external enclosure in an attempt to access and save the files i have on there but when i plugged it into my computer it informed me that the hard drive directory was corrupted. now i can't see the hard drive under my computer storage devices under computer where it stores all the drives . optimally i would like to save the files on the drive and reset it to working order. i can get a new one if i have to but is there any way i can save the files and the hard drive?i think i have most of it backed up but having to get a new hard drive and install the drivers and a new copy of windows xp does is not appealing.

Ok, sofar I am seeing a lot of questions about recovering corrupted drives, etc. My laptop recently took a dive off of a table and lets just say the connection for the power supply is rolling around inside it someplace. Still booted fine with the battery however that is obviously dead and unable to be charged now. I had bought an external shell for the laptop hard drive that connected via USB in the past same laptop had lost one hard drive over the years . My desktop sees the new device when it is plugged in, I hear the hard drive making noise inside the external case, but cannot seem to access it or anything. Anyone have ideas suggestions? I would really love to get my scuba diving photos off this little hard drive without having to buy a whole new laptop, and from what I have been told nobody wants to even try repairing the current broken one.

Laptop Hard Drive Recovery?
My laptop has recently died and refuses to boot into Windows XP. The error message I receive is " Unmountable Boot Volume" , I have done some searches on the internet and tried a few things but still can not get it to boot fdisk format or re install.This is what I have tried so far Booting with Windows 98 and deleting partition and creating a new one with fdisk deletes partition but freezes when trying to create new one and when computer is reset old deleted partition is still there? Removed Laptop hardrive and tried to boot as an additional drive in another machine just kept freezing the other machine? Booted into Windows XP Recovery console and tried chkdsk r get to around 39 % and then stops saying that there are un recovereable errors. Booted Windows XP installation disc and tried to install a new setup failed with an error on hard drive?Is there anything else I can try before buying a new hard drive?
