Hp4 laptop hard drive replacement issue?
HP dv4 1548dx laptop. Factory Hitachi 250G hard drive failed.Replaced it with a WD Scorpio Blue 500G. Got Ultimate Boot CD and formatted the drive, because I was told getting rid of the factory partition on the new drive might clear up the issue I was having. It did not.The issue is, the restore discs go through the entire song and dance of copying the files and installing windows. When it gets close to the end where it actually starts looking like windows 7, you get a HP message that the restoration is incomplete. All you have access to after a reboot is a windows login screen, only one account is present, Administrator, and when you click on it, you get notified that the Administrator account is disabled. If I go into Ultimate Boot, one of the partition managers notifies me that partition overlap has occured. If I look at the partition layout, there's always the 'original' partition, which I never enabled, and an additional two partitions that the recovery discs create. The recovery discs seem to do their own creating and formatting on the hard drive. Is there any other way around this other than paying the two c notes for a new copy of Win7?The partition information gets separated out like this.1 202.95Mb system, created by the recovery disc, active 2 58.00GB unknown partition area space, also active 3 391.75 GB 'default' partition, doesn't go away, even when inactive, can't delete it 4 15.82GB system recovery, created by the recovery disc, active When I started, I had a blank partition similar to 3, only it was 465.75Gb in size. Anybody have any idea what's going on here? Am I just using cruddy disc utils and need to find better ones?Orabus...when I said " because I was told getting rid of the factory partition on the new drive" , I meant the new WD Scorpio Blue 500G hard drive I bought as a replacement.Resolved. You have to disconnect the WLAN while installation is taking place. Then when the Recovery Manager error pops up, CTRL ALT DEL into Task Manager which you have access to by then , and end task on Recovery Manager. Then the files start loading like they should, and finish the process.
