Are all laptop hard drives compatible?
Hi guys, I have a Sony Vaio VGN NW240F and I wanna get a 500gb Hard drive, I looked them up on ebay and they go for around 50 60 bucks. If I bought one, would it be compatible with my laptop? How would I know? Thanks.

How to format my laptop hard drive?
I need to format my hard drive on my Sony Vaio EB series laptop. Windows gets stuck on the " Starting Windows" and wont go any further I have tried everything, called Sony, etc. I want to be able to format it without booting into windows, is there a way to format it using any special key sequence when I turn it on?I have tried restoring it, using Vaio Rescue and lots of other things so the only alternative for me is to format it and re install windows.I have also tried using the disk but Windows hangs when I restore
Should I have reason for concern while I'm running a laptop hard drive on my HP Pavillion desktop?
Okay so I've had my HP Pavillion A1340n for...hmmmm...a long time. It had Media Center Edition 2005 on it That'd be Windows XP and since then it's had...Windows 7 and Windows 7 Professional on it. Needless to say the hard drive has been wiped and restored and reinstalled and upgraded. So, it shouldn't be surprising that it acquired the " click of death" Cue SCREEEAAAAM So yeah, the drive clicked and clicked and wouldn't boot. So I took it to the tech people across from where I worked and paid for data recovery off the drive he said it clicked, but if he tapped it in the right places it would spin. Which is fine for recovery if the drive's out of the machine, but wouldn't do me much good stuck in the chunky chassis of my HP . I gave the old drive to him to be recycled and went on my way.Now here's the part I'm a little worried about . I have a MacBook Pro that I installed a 750GB 2.5" SATA hard drive into, leaving me with the original 250GB 2.5" SATA drive. I thank the Lord that I was able to format the old drive, install Windows 7 Home onto it, and connect it to my HP Pavillion as the chunky drive that came out of it was ALSO a SATA drive and I call that a true God given miracle . So my PC's running great and I haven't had much problem with it. My question is, should I be concerned of any hard drive or other hardware failures when running a tiny laptop drive inside a PC chassis made for a bigger drive?
Trying to connect my old laptop hard drive up to my new desktop?
So, I have a laptop which I am currently using , and I want to take the hard drive from here and put it in my new desktop which doesn't have a hard drive currently to save money both on buying a new hard drive and a new operating system and to save time by not having to transfer all of my files. The interface for both systems is SATA, so should I have any difficulty?
How to install OS on a laptop hard drive?
The laptop has no working dvd drive and I cannot get the USB slots to work with media storage. So I had to remove the SATA hard drive and try the install using my computer, but the laptop doesn't recognise any operating system on it when I place it back and try to start it. I assume this is an issue with the MBR or the laptop is looking in the wrong place... How do I install it properly so the laptop will recognise an OS? It's an old e system laptop, and I'm trying to repair it for a friend. Thanks.Yes I've exhausted all of the bios orders, I doubt it's anything to do with the drive letter but there's no such option anywhere in the bios settings anyway. Fixing the dvd doesn't seem a viable option because I'd have to take the whole laptop apart to get it out so that would be a last option. Basically what I think I want is a method of installing the OS so that the laptop will recognise it, but I have no idea how to do so. It's an old e systems laptop. The drive is internal, but I took it out and hooked it up to my computer in order to install the operating system.

I Have a dell inspiron 1545 Its probly about 2 yrs old? not quiet sure.But anyways my hard drive crashed so i replaced it with a new one.and put windows xp professional on it had no other OS to use So basically i cant connect it to the internet all my drives arent installed and have no cds to install anything. is there any websites to install these programs onto a cd like my webcam on there my wireless drive? im not sure what its all called im not a genious when it comes to laptops. I thought it would come with a cable to enable me to transfer my hard drives and some information on how to do it, but it did not. I don't know what cable to buy. How to transfer the Laptop Hard Drive from old to new?
I brought a new laptop since my old one is damaged but kept the hard drive because of the data is in there. I would like to know how can I transfer the data from the old laptop to new one. Would it be okay if I took out the hard drive from the new one and put the old hard drive in there? Is there any other way that I can do this than having to go to computer places to transfer my data? I brought one on ebay from China and it destroyed the motherboard on my first laptop so I am afraid to let it happen again. I learned my lesson not to buy it from ebay.
