Will a laptop i7 740qm be faster than my desktop e6700 dual core?
I ask because the clock speed on the i7 is much much lower than the speed on the e6700. 1.73ghz vs 2.66ghz. Will it still be faster because of more efficient architecture in single threaded applications?

Is it possible to install HyperX 1866 Mhz PnP SODIMM 8GB ram in Alienware m17x R3 laptop i7 2670QM.?
My processor is Intel Core i7 2670QM 2.2 Ghz . Please can anybody tell me whether my Alienware m17x R3 will and my processor will support this ram. Will I have to make changes to the BIOS to run this RAM or it would directly as Plug n Play as advertised by this product . I have just ordered my laptop and want to upgrade the RAM from stock RAM that is included with the laptop.

Any opinions? Is turbo boost just a marketing gimmick and should I just go by their base frequencies, what do you guys think?

New laptop. i7 720 with M330/5650 or i5 450 with HD5870?
I am upgrading a 6 year old XPS M1710 which has served me well. I want another machine to last me.I am looking at lots of options including Sony Vaio, HP Envy and MSI. Minimum screen 15.6.I no longer play games much , but I am a heavy photoshop CS4 user. So which would be best a core i5 450 with a high end gfx card or an i7 720 with a more modest one? I'm actually in Sweden, but my approx price limit is 1200By the way, I have attempted to use Dell, but they have twice refused my order and twice failed to phone me back when I tried to speak to a salesperson, so they are binned. Zac. Your answer is contradictory. The i5 5870 is the one with the high priced gfx card.I basically want to know if CS4 will benefit more from a quad core, or a better gfx card.
