New laptop owner...laptop lifespan related question...and some tips?
i just bought my first laptop ever I read that the lifespan of a laptop depends not just how old it is, but how you use it. I also read intense gaming shortens its lifespan....which might be cuz while gaming the video card produces more heat than say while surfing the net, so that might make the other components go bad sooner that they would otherwise.When at home, I intend on using a monitor rather than the notebook's screen I dont plan on gaming that much if at all , and like if i know im not gonna use it for say 3 hours i'll just shut it off as opposed to low power mode ...what are some other tips so that it will last me 5 years? its a Thinkpad PS go windows XP u rock ...unlike Vista... had vista ultimate in my gaming rig...downgraded back to XP pro cuz its so much nicer and faster

Will a laptops lifespan decrease quicker with an increase in usage?
What other additional factors affect the lifespan? Is there anything that will help the laptop last longer?I would also be interested to know, depending on whether you own a laptop how long, in hours, do you use yours in a day?
