How can i upgrade my laptops memory?

Question: How can i upgrade my laptops memory?

(Posted by: Dakota L on 2009-12-10 07:04:27)

I have an Asus K50IJ- RX05 laptop with 3 gigs of ram currently installed. The max amount of memory that can be installed is 4 gigs but i do not know what kind of memory i need and how to install it. Any advice would be welcome.

Call the maker. They will tell you the details. I don't think that will be an issue with them.

I would reccommend opening the RAM compartment of the laptop and looking at the RAM spec. I assume you will have either a 3gb in there or a 2gb and a 1gb. Also, what version of Windows are you running? It is only the 64bit versions of windows that use above 3gb of RAM so if it is the 32bit there is no point in ugrading. RAM is simple to install, however. All you need to do is take out one of the memory chips when the computer is off and plug in the replacement (as long as it is the correct spec). Then boot up the computer and it will work fine. Just make sure you NEED to upgrade before you go opening up the laptop. Hope this helps!

The easiest would be to go to crucial.com and have them do a sys scan. Follow the prompts and you will find exactly what you need. As for the actual install, most laptops have memory underneath the casing (bottom). You just need a Philips screwdriver and a gentle touch for installing the chips.

Um NO!!! 64 bit is not the only OS system that supports over 3gb, don't listen to him. You can install 4gb but your only gonna see about 3gb actually getting used, that's what he means I'm sure just to give him the benefit of the doubt. Use this program: CPU-Z/ CPU-ID, it's free on the internet This program will tell you everything you need to know about your computer. Then go to newegg.com, cheapest cpu parts store EVER, buy the proper RAM chips. Install it yourself or have someone do it for you.
