Should i get a laptop or desktop for college?
some more info on my situation if it helps im going to be a freshmen at university of marylandcommuter for first semester, on campus for the restcross town nrotc at george washington univcriminal justice criminology as majormight go home for a weekend every now and theni know laptops have portability and desks have better prices performance and hard drive space, but which would be better for college life?

I was wondering what college students usually use more, I plan on going to U of I next year and I believe they have a widely accessible wi fi. I do kind of want to take notes on the laptop because I do type a whole lot faster than I write. But maybe the desktop has more capabilities I would need? Help please.

Laptop or desktop for college freshman?
Which type of computer would be better to purchase for a soon to be college freshman a laptop or a desktop? Any recommendations as far as specific computers would also be appreciated. The student will be going in as undeclared but has an interest in pursuing optometry so science classes may become a large part of their curriculum. TIA.

Laptop or Desktop for college? (UofA, lister center)?
I'm going to college in September, more specifically to UofA, I'm going to study Industrial Design.I'm planing to get either a 27" iMac or a 15" MacBook Pro. I like the portability on the laptop, I really cant complain about its specifications, but with the iMac I would have much better things, and a much bigger screen much bigger . Maybe with the laptop I will procrastinate more, like in classes, but maybe be a little more social, not been stuck to my room with my desktop, my lovely lovely desktop. I could give the iMac a lot more years of use, as its significantly better, but the laptop ain't bad at all.Do you really get to use them in class, do you need them, do you use them to work with others, well you know...Some additional info so you can help me If I could get anybody that actually did go to UofA, even better lister center, would be great. Im going to be staying at a shared dorm.I live four hours by car away from UofA, so carrying the iMac wouldn't be much trouble in the summer.The iMac would be 27" , 2.66 quad core i5, 4Gb ram, 1Tb 7200rpm, ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MBThe Macbook Pro 15" , 2.4 i5 not two cores , 4Gb ram, 320Gb 5200rpm, intel HD Graphics integrated NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 256 MB discrete well just writing this down helped me a bit, but just want to hear the voice of experience from you.Thanks

Gaming Laptop or Desktop for college?
I'm going to college soon and I want to continue to play games but not on console, on PC. I was wondering if I should get a Gaming Laptop nothing too expensive like $1000 , something less than or around $700 that can play games like Skyrim, Battlefield 3, MW3, etc on high unlaggy settings . Gaming Laptops are portable so I can carry it around anywhere while desktops are not and people can damage or steal it. I don't know? And can gaming laptops desktops get viruses easily too? Thanks

I am going to college for Video game design in september and i have a laptop computer it is not very good but i think that it is good enough for me to go and type notes and other things in class would it be a good i dea for me to get a new laptop or a more power full desktop for rendering, Gaming, and projects and then use my laptop to do work outside of my home?

Ok, I'm going into college next year hopefully, ive been slacking alot and i dont know if im gunna even get into a university of my choice but most liekly i will be and im wondering whether i shoudl get a laptop or desktop. I don't know if i'll need a laptop's mobility superpowers or not really, in reality i can't really see the absolute need for it in class, i mean its not that hard taking down notes than typing them, and i do see the purpose in brining it to the library or some place just in case the dorm room gets noisy i dont know if they do get noisy often really . A desktop, however, i like them because you get more bang for your buck and im also kind of a gamer, not much but enough to be considered one and i know u can get more out of a desktop for that purpose. but at the same time i dont want to take up too much space in my dorm room and piss off my roommate or something for whatever reason i also dont really want to share my computer with my roommate if he doesnt have one, and i know that if he doesnt, the fact that i have a desktop will prolly look like it an open invitation to use my computer, and i dont him on it studyin for college when i want i need to use it, but then i again i just set the ground rules in the beginning . enough with my babbling. Ok so shoudl i get a laptop and be prepared for anything that might not even occur? also im not too worried about it being stolen cuz i will have my eyes locked on that bitch at all times, or it may never leave my dorm room . Or should i get a desktop and be able to satisfy my demandingness of my computer and sacrifice some of the mobility i may need? Although i appreciate everyone's advice id prefer a college student's advice or someone who has gone to college recently.well according to one answerer it sounds like im talking myself into a laptop, and actually i prefer adesktop but i dont want to make a mistake if i choose a desktop and i may need the laptop.lol also i have about $400 in cash and i coudl just go out and buy a measily little net book for school purposes and let my parents buy me a desktop?
