Why is my laptop overheating and shutting down?
I own a Toshiba Satellite A215, I already know about Satellite laptop's overheating problem, and I'm not asking for you to tell me about that. Instead, I would like some suggestions for what I can do to stop it. I've had it for about 2 years and it started doing this around a year ago. I've blown compressed air into it and I think it could possibly be a component that failed. It only heats up on the bottom left side of the laptop. I prop it up on my knee during use while it sits on a wooden desk, and open the optical drive to try and stop the overheating. My mom is planning on getting it looked at this weekend but if I can do something about it, I'd rather us save the money. I also plan to get a cooler, but I'd like to figure out whats wrong before I purchase one. That's about all the info I can give you, thanks. Thanks everyone I didn't expect so many answers so soon. I'll be sure to pick up a cooler soon and see if it helps.

Laptop overheating and shutting down while playing games?
I own an Acer Aspire 5750G Core i5, 1GB Video RAM . It has a 2.3GHz processor, but goes on Turbo Boost when I play games to 2.9 GHz. I used to play games perfectly before. Recently, the computer has shown signs of slowing down, longer load up times. I did the regular maintenance stuff, cleaning out temporary files, defragmentation, removing start up programs. I updated my Antivirus too. AVG Anti Virus After the maintenance the computer starting running better without much lag, although it wasn't like before. I do have space on my Hard Disk, 97 of 230 GB free in C drive, and 40 of 220 GB in the E Drive. The E drive is only filled with games and some other media. Until a few days ago, I wasn't playing games, due to lack of interest, but I have started again now. The performance seems to have reduced considerably, even while playing low graphics games like Counter Strike. However, when I play high end games eg Just Cause 2 , the performance not only seems slower its not bad, only lesser than before, not as smooth , but after playing the game for about 20 minutes, the system just shuts down automatically without a warning. As the system shut down automatically, I figured it was an overheating issue. It's quite possible that it might have got dust inside, as my room is not the cleanest place in the world. Any remedies or suggestions? P.S. I don't know much about hardware at all, although I'm good at software, so please don't recommend opening the laptop.
Why does my laptop overheat and shut down?
Ok, I got a laptop that's a little over 2 years old. I got a desktop a year ago so i haven't used my laptop since then. Now when i turn on my laptop, it would get really hot on the bottom and randomly shut down. The fan is running so I know that is not the problem. I want to give my laptop to my little brother but i am afraid that if it overheat like that, that sooner or later it might catch fire. Is there anything I can do about it?
My laptop overheats and shuts down. What should I Do?
Last night my computer shut down 5 times by itself in 3 hours. This is really annoying and this morning it shut down once by itself. I think its because my laptop overheats so much that it just shuts down. I hear the fan really loudly and this laptop is almost 2 years old. What should I do? ? ?Ok i turned it off and cleaned the opening of the air with an air compressor. Now I don't hear the fan running. Is this bad?
My laptop overheats and shut down. Can I replace the cooling fan myself?
My Toshiba Satellite laptop tends to shut down often, particularly when I'm playing a video or running a heavy duty application. I can hear the fan whirring loudly before it shuts down. Just to be sure that it was an overheating problem, I have tried to run the same apps outside in cold temperatures and they seem to work fine. Is there any way I can buy a replacement fan and change it myself? Is that likely to solve the problem?
