I have a question about laptop ram upgrades.?
Ok, first of all I am not exactly computer illiterate or electrically challenged. spent 21 yrs fixing planes for the navy Here's the deal My neighbor bought a bargain basement walmart Toshiba Satellite A105 2236 with a celeron m processor and ati graphics. It only had 512m of ram trying to drive Vista Basic. can you say SLOW . I offered to upgrade the ram for him and here is what I think happened. The 512m card is a pc4200 we bought the dude a staples sold us a set 2x 1024 cards that are pc5300's the package says that they will work as replacements for 4200's. And yes the specs for the computer say that it can go up to 2g. When I put both the 1g cards in the fans run and lights come on but it won't boot up blank screen and no " F8 or F12" options. When I put 1 1g pc5300 and the existing 512 pc 4200 card in it comes up fine. Now I know that if you mix Ram it will down clock to the 4200. Is the reason that it won't come up because with 2 5300 cards in it, it doesn't have a " reference 4200 so to speak " that tells it to down clock to and the 5300 just overdriving it? It isn't a big deal really as my neighbor is happy with the 1.5g that I managed to get working for him. It is more for my own knowledge and the fact that I used to fix multi million dollar aircraft and let a $600 laptop kick my butt. Thanx in advance and as a side note the reason we bought the 5300 was that it said it would work and was 34.99 for a set of 2 vice 41.99 per stick of pc 4200. Maybe cheaping out wasn't the way to go....

HP Laptop RAM Upgrade?
I have a HP g4 1117dx that I purchased in August. I use it a lot, and would like to upgrade the amount of RAM it has. It came with 4 GB of DDR3 memory, which it still has. Today I took off the back cover, and it appears there is only space for one module, which is the 4GB it came with. So, I looked around the HP store and other sites online, and it appears the most memory on a single module is 4GB. I would like to know if I was wrong somewhere, and if so, how would I go about upgrading the amount of RAM my computer has. If this helps, the card is made by Ramaxel. Thanks
Laptop Ram Upgrade...?
I'm running a HP Pavillion DV6000 laptop with 1gb of ram, vista home premium. I want to keep the 1gb stick, and install a seperate stick of 2gb. Are any of these suitable, will they fit into my laptop? I need to upgrade my RAM on my hp pavilion zv5000 laptop. what i need to know is where can i find it online and which RAM is right for my laptop. i am deployed right now so i cant go to a store and buy it and not too many websites work out here so I cant buy it online but i can have my wife do it for me. i would appreciate it if some one would give me the site and item number for the RAM. here is the part for my laptop.PC896U ABA
