Help with choosing a laptop wireless card!?
So, I'm getting a dell studio 15 but im stuck on one last thing. the wireless card included in the price is a Dell Wireless 1397 802.11g Half Mini Card. But for $40 extra I could upgrade to a Intel WiFi Link 5100 802.11agn Half Mini Card . My question is, is there any noticable difference between the two and if so, is it worth the $40 to spend on the better card? I saw on the website that the WiFi one is 5x faster and picks up 2x the range but I figured I'd see if any computer people could help me out. thanks so much well im moving away to school next year and im not sure if they have a wireless n router. if i did get the 1397, would it still work in a place with a wireless n router? also, if i got the 1397, could i ever buy a 5100 later and change them? or is it something internal?

Why does my laptop wireless card connect but not my desktop wireless card?
Ok, so as I said in the question, my laptop wireless card will connect to our bt homehub3 but my desktop wireless card tenda w311p won't. The desktop wireless card is far superior to the laptop one. I have made sure that the dekstop wireless works, as we placed it in the same room as the router and I get full, 5 bar connectivity.The room in which the computers stay is my bedroom. There is 2ft of granite in between the router and the computers. I have tried them both on my desk, in the same spot, and as i said, my laptop connects but my desktop does not. The laptop has a g type wireless card, the desktop has n type. I have turned the desktop round so that the aerial isn't having to transmit through the metal of the desktop.The problem which I get with the desktop is that, it will find the connection but it is says that it is un succesful in connecting but succesful in connecting if in the same room as the router .Please could someone explain to me the problem and give me possible solutions not including connecting it up to ethernet. please only solutions that mean me using the wifi. Thankyou, and please only answers from people who really know what they are talking about.Nope, it is 2.4 GHz

I been considering buying a new router, but I have always thought my laptops wireless was broken.. I find it hard to get a strong signal just a room across, When it was brand new I could sit out in the garden and find other people's networks.. now I cant do either, I cant go downstairs, where as I use to, 2 months ago I had a checkup for free at pc world they said it was fine, now its got worse, I get 1mbps with speedtest.net with my other laptop next to me getting 16 18 mbps...Any ideas?I have reinstalled the wireless card through device manager also tried to update drivers.. to be told drivers are most up to date.

I dont know much about laptops and dont know much about wireless, routers etc. My laptop brand new would pick the internet up outside in my garden, now sometimes it struggles to get a good connection just in my bedroom, normally get around 3 bars now but alot of disconnects, dads laptop is fine, so is the xbox so pretty sure router is fine, I took my laptop to pc world few months ago because of a free check up, told them the problem, it seemed to work a bit better once I got it back which took like 2 months. But now its just annoying as the problem has come back.So I was thinking of buying a new router to help boost the signal around the house, mostly for my laptop and Xbox. I currently have the virgin media router which is.... ebuyer.com product 48546and was considering buying...ebuyer.com product 142702I didn't no what a Wireless N Router was till yesterday but I found out my laptop and xbox dont support N only support G, But If its backwards compatible would it still give a stronger signal even on G mode ? My budget is around 40, Any help much appreciatedI've also tried changing channels on my router and on channel 11 at moment which no one else is on which didn't seem to help at all. My laptop cant even find other people's networks, where as it use to... and my dads can find at least 8 or 9 other networks. Just another small question Can anyone explain how you go about picking the correct router and how to tell distance, quality of the signal and router. Laptop Wireless card?
So my wireless card network adapter whatever is basically broken, I can't keep a connection longer than 10 15 minutes at a time without the stupid little wifi disconnected bubble popping up. I own a HP Probook 4530s with an Atheros AR9285 g n wifi adapter in it connected to my Netgear N600 router. I want to buy a new one to replace it. I've found some good ones but not completely sure of which one to choose just not the USB ones . If anyone has any recommendations, that would be great. This really isn't my area of expertise.
