I'm looking for a laptop and was tinkering around on the Dell website and came up with this; STUDIO 15Studio 15 Notebook Operating SystemGenuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64- Bit ProcessorsIntel® Pentium™ Dual Core T4200 (2.0GHz/ 800Mhz FSB/ 1MB cache) Memory3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 800MHz KeyboardStandard Keyboard LCD Panel15.6” High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLife™ and Camera Video Card512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 Hard DriveSize: 250GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM) System ColorBlack Chainlink Adobe ReaderAdobe® Acrobat® Reader 9, English/ French/ Spanish Combo or DVD+RW Drive8X Slot Load Super Multi (DL DVD+/ - R Drive + RAM support) SoundHigh Definition Audio 2.0 Wireless Networking CardsDell Wireless 1397 802.11g Half Mini- Card Office Productivity SoftwareMicrosoft® Works 9 Software - AntivirusNo Security Battery56 Whr Lithium Ion Battery (6 cell) Hardware Support ServicesClassic Protection: 1 yr Ltd Warranty and Mail- In Service DatasafeDell Online Backup 2GB for 1 year Processor BrandingIntel® Pentium® Processor Dell Remote AccessDell Remote Access, free basic service i need it to be able to smoothly run the game 'Maplestory', i'm assuming it'll be able to run Diablo 2, Starcraft and Counter- Strike 1.6 if it can run that. also i'll probably be removing Vista and installing XP (Vista is crap don't tell me to leave it on) and Avast! so i don't need preinstalled junk like Norton or Mcafee. so, anything i missed that i'd need?

I think it's a pretty good config. You might want to bump the memory up to 4GB now so that you don't have to worry about it later. You might be able to save money by taking off the Adobe stuff and the online backup unless they are free upgrades or you really need them. As for downgrading to XP, you might want to consider upgrading to Windows 7. I've tried it and it was pretty good (though I personally never had any issues with Vista). It runs better on less than its predecessor.

Its pretty decent spec for that price. I'm sure you will be able to run those games mentioned. Vista is not crap, its has got more features and more adjustable than old xp. The problem is that it takes more RAM. If you downgrade to XP, then you will be able to use the extra RAM space for other programs or increase performance definitly.
