My laptop has something wrong with it?

Question: My laptop has something wrong with it?

(Posted by: on 2010-03-09 18:33:37)

It's an ASUS Notebook U50F. It's new, only had it for a few weeks. It runs perfectly, but almost every time I type more than a few words, the computer goes into some kind of sleep mode. the screen goes completely black. to turn it back on, I just push the power button and it opens to the first user menu. I click Owner, and it opens up immediately to whatever I was doing before. It's happened several times just typing this! Someone help me!

This being a lap top you will run into this when your battery is low on power, or you can check the settings in the bios go through it page at a time till you come to power managment page there you can adjust the settings that should take care of the issue.

Check your interface drivers and make sure they are up to date. i had a similar problem where the keyboard on my Asus would miss read the keys i was pressing. they typically were all the same keys that were appearing instead of what i was clicking. you could be having the same problem but with the Function key and F1, thus putting your Asus to sleep. when i checked my drivers and updated them all it fixed the issue. support.asus.com/ download/ download.aspx go here and enter your model in the search bar. just download the human interface drivers if you dont want to spend too much time but i suggest that you download all the new up to date drivers and install them.

If you're going to type more, try opening the On-Screen Keyboard somewhere in programs...it's under Accessories and maybe another directory. First, you'll want to make sure that you are not accidentally pressing the power button while you are typing. If that's not the problem, try typing again, but watch what you type very carefully. Does the computer sleep every (number here) characters, or does it sleep every time you press a certain character? If you find a pattern, then record it. It may be useful if you contact support. Or maybe its a keyboard shortcut that sleeps the computer. Restart your computer and boot into safe mode. Press the key that's specified (F8, ESC) during the boot screen. Try to recreate the problem there. If it doesn't happen, it's likely caused by a process that runs on startup. If it happens, then it may be a problem with your hardware. Contact the manufacturer and ask for a replacement or start a thread at a forum, where you can get more help. Hope I helped.

You need to go on the settings panel (I think it is the Control Panel) and change the sleeping settings. It is not the typing that is triggering this, it is the sleep settings. They are set for too short of a time.
