Laptop or netbook? advice needed.?

Question: Laptop or netbook? advice needed.?

(Posted by: alan_ogz83 on 2010-03-13 07:38:12)

Hi Everyone! I currently own a laptop bought 2 years ago and I'm thinking of purchasing either a laptop or netbook for my university studies. I'm a Computer Science student and am always doing programming and stuff. The netbook will be the latest model from HP mini 210 series while the laptop I'm looking at DELL's latitude 13. I'm hoping to use my new gadget for another couple of years at least and hope those experts out there could give me some advice. Really appreciate all those feedbacks and have a great weekend! Thanks in advance!

I think you should buy laptop.well thats what i think maybe others think opposite from me but the configuration of laptops is way much better than netbooks.

If you're looking for a primary computer, I'd definitely go with a full laptop. A netbook isn't fast of full-featured enough for the things most college students will throw at it. As a programmer, I'm sure you value screen real estate. Nothing is worse than having to click through windows to switch from your source to all the other things you may have open. This means the larger screen of a laptop will be a pro. Also, you'll be doing a lot of typing (you probably know this already). So a full keyboard is just about a necessity. Netbooks often have scaled-down keyboards. I would suggest a laptop with a full number pad too. I'll never buy a computer without one (although I do CAD too, so I'm always entering in dimensions). A $500 laptop will also get you much better specs than a $500 netbook. You can run faster and better things on a laptop than on a comparably-priced netbook. However, if you're looking for sole portability and battery life, I'd go with a netbook instead. Otherwise the best choice for you is a full-sized laptop. Have fun with your new computer, whichever style you decide to go with! --Lucien Briscoe

I have an hp mini and love it because it's so small and easy to carry to class. but I have a passport hard drive to store my stuff (music, pics, docs, etc.) so it won't slow the computer down, also there is no disk drive so you would have to buy a usb port if you want to use a disk. I love my hp mini, easy to carry, not so easy to break, (like if I dropped it) saved money buying it, and it saves energy. I don't use norton which comes with it, I think it would ruin the computer. I would talk to professionals at the store for their opinion if I were you. I'm happy with my choice. Don't forget to get a good warranty.
