I must respectfully disagree with the first poster. There is nothing wrong with Macs, however they tend to run more expensive than PCs for no added benefit. Poster claims PCs break down more, but that depends on who puts the thing together - it doesn't break down just because it's a PC. As for malware..... just use common sense protective measures, which you should do regardless of what platform you're on. Plus if you want to game, most video games will not run on macs without emulation, which will give you a performance hit if it works at all. As for specs: for your general schoolwork you don't need anything special. Get a processor with at least two cores, about 4GB of RAM, a modestly-sized hard drive (around 320GB should be fine unless you plan on storing a lot of movies ad stuff on the drive itself.) etc etc. However if you want to actually hold your movies on the computer then get a bigger hard drive..... at least one TB, more if you can afford it. And for gaming you're going to need a lot heftier equipment: a processor with at least four cores, as much RAM as you can get your hands on, and most importantly a dedicated name-brand graphics card. the exact specs will depend on just exactly which games you intend to play. |
