Broken laptop screen? hard drive damage?

Question: Broken laptop screen? hard drive damage?

(Posted by: on 2010-09-03 18:55:31)

I couple days ago I woke up late, was rushing around in the dark, and accidentally stepped on my laptop, cracking the screen. It's totally shot, no part of the former screen is visible just a large spiderweb in the center. I'm sure this isn't covered under warranty (although I got it 8 months ago), and I've been thinking about getting it looked at and maybe repaired at best buy using Geek squad or something. I heard that if you buy your own screen first and then have them install it it costs less than $100. Have them do it all and its about $180. Is this true? Is there someone else who can do it for less? Also, I can't be completely positive but I think I stepped on the top of the laptop while it was closed shut and the lid was down. The keyboard is totally unharmed and the physical screen is also intact. Do you think any of the hard drive is damaged? I'd hate to lose my music, pictures, and documents. I know this is kind of a crap shoot without having someone go in and look at it physically, but if you have an insight at all it's greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

If the keyboard part is intact then i doubt there is hard drive damage unless the laptop was dropped as for best buy , geek squad it might be cheaper but they might not use a screen that you buy if there not familiar with it usually they like to work with there own parts that they are familiar with check with them first and see what they say and what kind of screen you would need.

Your hardrive is most likely fine...Don't worry about that. An lcd screen is around $100 + the tech if you don't know how to install. If your really worried about the hdd...take it out and mount it as an external drive, but I wouldn't worry they are inside another metal case inside of the laptop so it takes quite a bit to break them.
