Question: How do you port forward with a laptop?

Ok, could i just open the ports on the network router and have them connect to my laptop IP which is in the network of the router?

You've answered your own question. All the config is done on the router.

Link is correct (with respect to you answering your own question). There is one thing you should do before you forward ports to your laptop. Give your laptop a static IP address which falls outside of your DHCP range of your router. If you travel with your laptop and connect to other hot spots, remember to change your IP address back to automatic.
