Laptop harddisk question?

Question: Laptop harddisk question?

(Posted by: on 2012-01-27 20:55:03)

Ok, i recently removed the harddisk from a very old laptop. I need to transfer the data onto a new laptop. Do I need a special device for this? If I removed my current HD from my new laptop to slot in the old one, I'm still going to need some way to transfer the data right? thanks

Most likely the old hard drive is IDE and the new one is SATA and they are not interchangeable as the pin configuration is different. Buy a USB IDE hard drive enclosure install it into the enclosure connect to new laptop them open the drive and copy the files from the now external hard drive. Cost from $10.00 up. The operating system, drivers, utilities on the old hard drive also would not be compatible with the new laptop.

I have a small adapter that you can plug into an external hard drive to make it an external usb drive, you can either find someone who owns one of these or you can purchase a hard drive dock from any major electronics store. it allows you to take a hard drive and dock it to make it an external hard drive.

There are many ways to transfer the data. 1) You can use a extra USB devise for this 2) You can write CD or DVD 3) You can use another PC

Go to Newegg and spend about 17.00 for a USB 2.0 notebook drive enclosure. then once you have transfered your data you can reformat the drive and have a portable storage\backup solution using the notebook Drive in the enclosure.
