Question: How long will a mac laptop last me?

My PC desktop that my family has has recently crashed since it was pretty old and instead of getting a new computer we were thinking of just getting a laptop for everyone in the family, which is basically just me since everyone else already has one in my family. My parents suggested that I get a Mac and are willing to pay for it as my sixteenth birthday present..... We were looking at a Mac Book Pro but i was wondering how long it will last me because we want it to last me at least until the end of my freshman year of college. Thankyou!! I am in the 10th grade currently.

Mac in the long run are a better value since they are made better and will last for years. I have a powerbook G3 laptop that is almost 10 years old and still works great. Please keep in mind laptops go through much more than desktop models due to being moved around and they are more compacted inside so heat is an issue. If you keep one of the newer apple laptops cool and dry it will last you through college then you would be able to sell it to buy a new one. Apple laptops also keep there value longer and if you want (have to) run windows on it, you can under boot camp. Best of both worlds.

It should run problem free for around 4-5 years, and after that you'll see little problems, but nothing to drastic
