I want to replace my old laptop hard drive (IDE/UltraDMA5/ULTRA ATA 100); what are the options available?
I got a S.M.A.R.T. failure warning for my old hard drive, that suggests immediate hard drive replacement. Specifications of my old hard drive are FUJITSU MHV2080AH, mobile HDD 2.5 inch, 80 GB, IDE Ultra DMA 5 ULTRA ATA 100 , 5400 RPM, Dimensions WxDxH mm 70x100x9.5.My laptop is HP Pavilion DV1615TS notebook PC 5 yr old model . The hard drive is IDE P ATA type. What are the replacement options available. i dont think my laptop motherboard supports SATA. btw, how do i find out whether my laptop motherboard supports SATA? Is it possible to connect a SATA hard disk using some card adapter? Will i be able to use this SATA disk as primary boot device? If it is possible then can you suggest any PCI cards? Plz. help urgent help, guidance needed to prevent Imminent hard drive failure.

How to get "my Documents" from old laptop hard drive?
My old laptop died. I can read from the old hard drive on the new laptop but I can't find the things that were stored in " my documents" Where are they?both computers are windows 7.I did look in the user folder. Only see public and admin. it is not there. I search for a file I know should be there on the entire old hard drive. I even went into DOS to see if maybe the folder was hidden.Thank you. I clicked on USERS folder. Said I didn't access. Pop up said click continue to get access. Did that. 4 5 min later. I see my files.Thank you

Hi, I have extracted an old sata Hard Disc Drive from an old net book. It may be damaged, I'm not sure the net book had taken a fall previously. Anyhow I have purchased a 2.5" sata hard disc drive enclosure with a single USB connection and no separate power supply on eBay. I have connected the hard disc drive up to a new net book using the enclosure and it is spinning but it is not recognized in my computer. When I go into computer management it tells me that the hard disc is healthy but I have to initialize it so that it can be allocated with a letter in " My Computer" . But it is to my understanding that this means that the disc drive will be formatted and so I will loose all the data on it. So I was wondering would anyone know how I might go about extracting information off the disc without having to format it? I'm using a Samsung N145plus net book with Windows Home Premium. The operating system on the hard disc drive I want to extract data off is Windows 7 Starter Edition.

My wife's computer has a bad DC power board on it, and go freakin figure, I can't get one to save my life Anyways, I wanted to know if there is a cable or system for attaching an external hard drive to it and transfering the data over so it's not lost. The Laptop is an Averatec 3200 series, P N AV3235HS 29. I've searched all over for the board itself and every genius on the planet seems to think that all it takes is just the DC jack. The board is cooked, but it will power on with the battery so I know the computer works. I just don't have enough juice left in the battery to charge it and I have no way to charge the dang battery without the stupid board As you can tell, I'm pretty frustrated with all this, but it keeps turning into the same wild goose chase and I'm looking for an option just to recover the data. I don't need the computer itself. Thanks for any help you can give

have my backup disks still for that drive which has all info on how do i go about booting the external drive with the disk vista so can get all my bits back off it..... but not damaging the new laptop which has windows 7have to say not very good with Techno so please bare with me hard drive good was the mother board that blew..hard drive now in a 2.5 sata case, im sure the cd's are a back up of all files which is why im after trying to retrieve them and put them back onto my hard drive..... the cd is vista is there a way to reload that on the drive and carry on with windows 7 on the main hard drive

What i mean by older is like in 2004 below. I know the new ones are running on Pata Sata but i need to know the older ones because i need to buy an adapter for one on newegg. This is the hard drives that lay down on the pins not connect into them.

Are older laptop hard drives (6-10gb) suppose to make noise?
I just bought a bunch of older 6gb laptop hard drives. I usually only deal with laptops drives that are above 40gb and they never make noise. The motors on these make noise while spinning the drive, not very loud but kind of. Just wondering if this is a problem or if it is normal for drives this size?
