How do I fix my overheating laptop?
Hi,A slight, yet major problem with my Samsung R60 laptop. The fan has decided to stop spinning regardless of the heat. To start the story from the beginning, a few days before it stopped, it started to 'rev' in almost a 1 second on off pattern which i found annoying, understandably. Then a few days later I actually burnt my hand on the side vent a little. In panic I quickly shut the computer down after noting the fan had stopped. The next day i quickly tried it again, no spinning. So i took the laptop apart don't worry, it's already out of warranty and took the fan out. i initially thought it was the fan just broken, so i just ordered a new one which hasn't arrived yet at a hefty manufacturer's price, but thinking it was a necessary purchase as no where else sells it i bought it. then the other day common sense caught up with me, and i decided to test the fan. cutting the wires i placed the black and red wire onto a 9V battery cell and, to my dismay, it worked fine...I have one of those boards that have some fans built into it to help aid cooling, so cooling and ventilation has never been a problem. This was one of the few times i haven't used it, as i was at a friends on his dining table I could also use this if you think i need to change a setting and temporarily keep it cool.I really hope someone can help me as i'm not really in a situation to buy a new computer, especially with the doubt of it actually being broken UndecidedThanks a lot in advance,Luke
What can I do for an overheating laptop?
For the past 4 nights my laptop has been overheating while I'm sleeping and not even using it and it then dies. I had it propped up on things so the bottom is clear and doesn't have anything touching it and nothing is in front of the fan but it still continues to overheat and die. The first three times it did it it was only when i had a web browser open because if i didn't have one open it wouldn't die then last night it still died even though i closed everything like its getting worse. Is there anything I can do? I was going to try the trays that have the built in cooling fan that people set their laptops on but I'm not sure if they really work but does anybody have any other ideas of what i can do because i dont have the money to take it in to get it looked at.

What controls the automatic shutdown -overheating laptop?
laptop is around 4 years old pc worlds own e system which part in a laptop controls the automatic shutdown when it is over heating, i bought a laptop stand cooler which works but shuts down the computer, without the stand it never shuts down but it is way too hot to touch burning my hand if i touch it for over a few secondsbut WITH the stand it shuts down after about 45 60 mins. but is barely warm to the touch, so im guessing the part which controls monitors the temperature is at the top of the laptops base so all of the heat is being funnels past it.so.... is there a way to take out unsolder disable the part?please provide a picture of what the part looks like

Overheating Laptops?!?!?
Hi,I am currently using 2 computers A dinosaur desktop PC and an Acer notebook laptop with vista.I like to use the laptop because I find the laptop easier to use than our desktop, but watching videos is impossible with the laptop, because it overheats.I am angling for a macbook, mac or any apple computer, but have heard that they do the same thing. If I get an mac book, then will this happen, and if so, what can I do to stop it?FYI The laptop is used by the whole family and has a lot of my mom and dads files and there email account, plus more, so I'm thinking that this has something to do with it?
How do I fix a short circuited or overheated laptop?
I have an HP Laptop that i loaned to somebody and when i got it back, it would really turn on or reboot right. I had all the memory deleted and had it back to like it was brand new, but it still did the same thing. I found out that it might have overheated or short circuited when i put RAM in it. Is there anyway to fix these problems? Thanks Best answer gets 10 points
Overheating Laptop Problem?
Hi, I own a Presario 2100, my Mom received it from a coworker who was upgrading. I don't know quite how old it is, but I would estimate about 5 years or so. Recently, it's been becoming very hot, and often it turns itself off without warning. A computer store informed me this was a defense mechanism against overheating, and may be worsened by dust. How do i stop it from doing this, keeping in mind I cant afford a new laptop, or a cooling pad. These days it's resting on two tin boxes to give it more air. Christiann, I currently have it permanently set up on my desk, And while I don't quite know what burning circuit board smells like, it does get hot.
Frustrating, Overheating Laptop...?
My laptop has been overheating for the past year. I believe I got it November of last year but I forgot... Anyway, it's still pretty new, from just before laptops started coming out installed with Windows 7. Mine has Windows Vista . I don't know if the brand has anything to do with the problem... But it's a Toshiba brand, " Portege A605 P210" according to the sticker on the bottom... I took it in to Fry's Electronics to get a diagnostic and then when they said it was a problem with the fan, I got that fixed too. They said the fan was collecting too much dust lint due to being on soft surfaces like on the bed, etc. When I got the laptop back, I never put it onto a soft surface, only a flat, clean one. But it started overheating again a month later. I used AM using a cooling pad at the moment, but it still overheats even with the cooling pad. Although I think it may not overheat as long as it's not plugged it, but with the fan running... I'm not sure. Anyways, I was wondering what the best thing to do would be. Should I take out the fan and clean it, or should I spray it with dust repellent if that's even safe? , or just take it back to a repair shop... Although I would like to try some other options first... As long as they wont damage my laptop. Thanks for the help.Sorry, I forgot to include it starts to heat up after an amount of time has been anywhere from 5 minutes to a few hours before it over heats. The time it takes to overheat might have to do with the outside temperature... but it's always in a room about 75 degrees Fahrenheit. But yes, when it overheats, it gets so hot that I've burned my self a few times, and then it shuts off without a warning, like a PC would that got unplugged.
