Question: I just bought a sony laptop and the when it turns on the screen turns white from the outside inward. whats up?

I just purchased a son VAIO used.about a month ago. Things were great. Now when my daughter turns it on the screen slowly turns white from the outer edges until the whole screen turns white. What causes this and how can I fix it?

Possibly a bad connection with the ribbon cable to the screen or where it connects to the motherboard. Now you know why it was being sold. Try booting it with external monitor already connected and on. I have a Sony purchased a long time ago (January 2000) that sometimes ends up with a scrambled screen (random horizontal pixel shift) due to the ribbon cable screen connection. The secret to fixing that was to press on the back of the screen on the "i " in Vaio (apparently where the connector was located).

Does the hard drive light flash when it's trying to boot? Try booting from an operating system CD. Try plugging in an external monitor to see if it's the screen.
