How do connect my sony laptop to a netgear router?

Question: How do connect my sony laptop to a netgear router?

(Posted by: on 2010-07-12 16:13:41)

Okay so I have a Netgear Router (pretty sure it's the G one) and I have a Sony Vaio laptop. I also have a PS3. The PS3 connects fine to the router and the desktop that is connected by an ethernet cord works fine but whenever I try to connect the laptop using a Linksys N Ultra RangePlus Network Adapter (I know it's a different brand but it should work) it connects to the network and then says "Limited or No Connectivity " and the internet won't load. I have a WEP key on the router and I KNOW I entered it correctly because I re- entered the password 3 times. I did ipconfig in cmd and the IP Address and Subnet Mask is 0.0.0.0. Can anyone help? (BTW the laptop is running Windows XP)

1) turn off router. wait 10 seconds. turn on again 2) restart laptop 3) Check the connection again 4) if nothing, set the windows to be default wireless manager and try again. then right clik the connection and press repair. see where it gets stuck when repairing it.

Do you have your laptop set for DHCP or a static IP? It needs to be set for DHCP. Since you've gotten this far (and you don't say which version of Windows you're running), I have to assume that you know how to get to your IP settings. Also, do you have a firewall turned on? If so, turn it off; you won't need it since your network's IP's are non-routable, and it will block your connection.
