Question: I need help connecting my sony laptop to my sony bravia tv...?

I have a Sony Vaio VPCFW56 laptop with a full HD 16 inch screen and a built- in blu- ray player. I just recently purchased a Sony Bravia 32 inch full HD LCD TV model number KDL32EX401U. I was gonna get a stand alone blu- ray player to go with it but a friend of mine said it would be cheaper to get an HDMI cable and connect the laptop (I don't use it as much as I used to and plus it sounded cool having my laptop hooked up to my tv). So I bought an HDMi to HDMI cable from amazon and plugged the cable into both devices. When I go to the HDMI device options on the TV it can't detect my laptop and so despite having the cable connected and following the limited instructions supplied by sony with the tv on how to connect an HDMI device to the TV, I DON'T GET ANY RESULTS! Please help, as I just bought Fight Club on Blu- ray and would really like to watch it on a big screen!!!

Start:Accessories:Connect to a projector: Duplicate. There's another type of cable too, but I'm not sure of it's name, it is the larger socket in your PC with 2 screws on each side.
