hey my laptop was new about a year ago and it cost me 600.now it is really bad, catching all sorts of viruses with almost 1 hour battery life and is slowing down and ANNOYING ME I want to get a new laptop that is fast, has around 100 GB memory and has a good battery life 5 hours .What should i get that doesnt cost like 1000 ? like the new macs?

I'm a student in the market for a laptop, however when I ask around Campus I get a variety of responses. My observations are that the most common ones around campus are Dell, Toshiba, IBM, HP and Acer. I'm kinda preferential to Dell but they can be quite expensive when I request the features I want. If anyone has really good experience with a particular brand of laptop for at most 4 years can you please help me? Thanks for all the responses. Mac's have been suggested to me but I'm partial to Windows PCs since a wider variety of programs run on them. I'm kinda leaning towards Dell since I was really satisfied by their service, but HP has the same stuff I would like on a laptop for a lot less cheaper than Dell. I do want a laptop for student needs but since it may be my first major computer purchase in 8 years I'm also looking for a desktop replacement. Any thoughts?
