Xbox 360 + Laptop, 1 Monitor?

I have just purchased a wired Ethernet router and want to connect my Xbox 360, Laptop, and Desktop to it.?
The Desktop is Vista Ultimate and the Laptop is XP. I originally was able to get the Xbox and one of the computers connected and able to function online at the same time. But I seemed to have messed something up and can only get one thing working now. I have the router connected to the modem i originally would switch between the laptop and xbox. I have been reading through microsoft help guides but nothing seems to help. When I was able to get two of the three connected the IP address would not work for the other. I get the Xbox to work by matching the MAC with the physical address to the laptop. But when i try to get on the internet with the desktop, the IP address won't work. I really need this to work so if you could help that would be greatly appreciated. I'll be checking back often because I'll just be trying to fix it while sitting here.THANKSis it going to be possible to do if i let the router assign the IP addresses?I read that wrong. What I really need to know is how can i change the settings of the router?

When i get to the actual part where i have to click the 2 boxes to allow sharing i get this error message " An Error Occurred while internet connection sharing was being enabled."
